The health benefits of onions cannot be over emphasized as it has been used to cure virtually everything under the sun. This has been a known fact for over 5000.
Onions indeed possess many active compounds that have been proven beneficial for all sorts of health problem.
Below is a list of health benefits of onions to the body:
1.Onions is Nutritious
Onions are a very good source of vitamin C, B6, biotin, chromium, calcium, dietary fibre, folic acid and vitamin B1 and K.
Onions have enzyme called alliinase, which is released when an onion is cut or crushed. They also contain flavonoids, which are pigments that give vegetables their colour. These compounds act as antioxidants and have a direct antitumor effect with immune-enhancing properties.
I cannot ignore the sulfur content of onions for sulfur is good for the liver. As a sulfur food, they mix best with proteins, as they stimulate the action of the amino acids to the brain and nervous system.
The organic sulfur compounds contained in onions provides health benefits. These specific amino acids are called methionine and cysteine. Detoxification of your body from heavy metals like mercury, cadmium and lead is done by these amino acids.
Its vitamin C content is excellent at detoxifying the body and is effective in removing lead, arsenic and cadmium. So increasing consumption of onions can help the body to get rid of these harmful metals.
Onion is riches source of quercitin. Quercitin has been shown to lower cholesterol, thin the blood, raise good-type HDL cholesterol, fight asthma, ward off blood clots, chronic bronchitis, diabetes, infections and atherosclerosis.
It is an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiviral, thought to have diverse anti-cancer powers.
Your blood is kept free of clots by the consumption of onions.
Harvard's Dr. Victor Gurewich advises all his patients with coronary heart disease to eat onions daily. Here are some of the things that onions can do for your heart:
• Lower total blood cholesterol
• Boost beneficial HDL cholesterol
• Lower triglycerides
• Lower blood pressure
• Thin the blood
• Retard blood clotting
Research has shown that all onions and onion relatives (garlic, leeks, chives and scallions, or spring onions) are rich in organosulfur compounds help prevent cancer in lab animals, as the onion extract was shown to be nontoxic, since a dose as high as forty times that of the dose required to kill the tumor cells had no adverse effect on the host.
Research also shows that onions have significant blood sugar-lowering action, even comparable to some prescription drugs.
Onions is also used treat asthma, this action in asthma is due to its ability to inhibit the production of compounds that cause the bronchial muscle to spasm and to relax bronchial muscle.

WAYS TO STOP SNORING

FOUR WAYS TO STOP SNORING
Snoring can pretty
make people around you feel discomforted when ever it comes to bed time. I have felt that same way when i lived with my uncle during my University days, he
snored so loud that the neighbors had to call for a doctor to help out with
some remedies to this noise pollution. The following were the doctors
prescriptions:
1. Lose Weight.
Of course my uncle
had put on so much weight, he was advised to loose some weight as gaining
weight around your neck squeezes the internal diameter of the throat, making it
more likely to collapse during sleep, triggering snoring.
2. Avoid Alcohol.
I was almost
showing my excitement when the doctor got to this point. I really had prayed he took this drinking to an end for his health sake. Alcohol reduce the resting
tone of the muscles in the back of your throat, making it more likely you'll
snore. People who don't normally snore will snore after drinking alcohol like
five hours before bed time.
3. Practice Good
Sleep Hygiene.
Poor sleep habits
can have a negative impact on a man. Working long hours without enough sleep,
and when you finally hit the bed overtired. You sleep hard and deep which
creates snoring, .
4. Stay Well
Hydrated.
Drink plenty of
fluids. Secretions in your nose and soft palate become stickier when you're
dehydrated, This can create more snoring. men require about 16 cups of water a
day.
If my uncle could
get enough sleep, avoid alcohol before bedtime and take a hot shower if nasal
passages are closed . These simple practices can make a huge difference in
reducing snoring."

Best Brain Boosting Food and habits
Green tea
keeping the brain properly hydrated is vital for helping it to function at optimum levels as the brain is made up of around 80 per cent water. However, if you’re not a fan of regular water, swapping it for a cup of green tea could have added benefits for your brain. A Korean study has found that green tea can help to increase mental alertness and enhance your memory.
Chocolate
Dark chocolate is rich in brain-boosting chemicals, called flavonoids, which can enhance your cognitive skills. Research has found that flavonoids induce the creation of new neurons in the brain and also improve their ability to form new memories. Studies also show that flavonoids improve blood flow to the brain. One study of adult women found that when given flavonoid-rich chocolate drinks, the blood flow to participants' brains increased within two hours and they performed better on a complex mental task.
Fitness
Fitness is important for healthy brain function too Working out may be a critical component for brain health. Recent studies suggest that a minimum of 15 minutes of physical activity each day is needed to keep your brain fit; however, 30 minutes most days of the week is optimal.
Oily fish
If you struggle to remember what you had for breakfast or what you had for dinner an hour ago, consider stocking up on the ultimate brain food, oily fish. Omega-3 fatty acids – found in oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines – are invaluable for just about every part of our body, and it seems our brains are no different. Researchers from the University of Kuopio in Finland found that eating oily fish three times a week reduces the risk of brain problems by 26 per cent and prevents against memory loss.
Dark, leafy greens
Dark, leafy greens such as spinach, kale and broccoli are packed with antioxidants, including vitamin C and beta-carotene, which are essential to keep your body and brain in good health. They are also a good source of folate, which can help to speed up information processing and memory recall. Research results published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also indicated that the folate found in leafy green vegetables can help to protect against cognitive decline in old age.
Eggs
Egg yolks are nutritional powerhouses packed with many vitamins and minerals essential for good brain function. This cheap and versatile ingredient is a good source of iron, which is essential for creating red blood cells which carry oxygen to the brain, helping to keep your mental faculties sharp and to keep you alert and focused. Eggs are also a good source of vitamin B12 – a deficiency of which can lead to memory loss and confusion – and iodine, which has been shown to improve problem-solving abilities even in only mildly deficient children.
